I'm marrying a wonderful Italian man, and here's my question. I plan on becoming an Italian citizen, and I know about the residency requirements and such, but I was wondering if there was a way for me to retain my American citizenship and become a dual citizen even though I do not have any Italian relatives. All I can find is information on Jure Sanguinis and that doesn't apply to me. I know America shouldn't revoke my citizenship, but I'm not clear on whether it would be legal from Italy's perspective.
Answer on Italian dual citizenship without Jure Sanguinis?
1) There are NO residency requirements!
2) You can have dual citizenship via marriage
It's all in the booklet "Dual Citizenship Information Guide"
This is from the Italian Consulate in Boston but it should be the same everywhere:
